September has been a mix of super casual thrown on outfits and slightly more thought out ones with crazy variations in weather. It’s always interesting to put these posts together because I am able to see what I’m really wearing, and also kindof check myself to see if I’m practicing what I preach. Many of the items I’m wearing I’ve repeated in these outfits and last month’s outfits as well. A couple of outfits are almost identical.
Also, (yes, I did the math) 65% of the items in these outfits are secondhand, which is the main way I practice ethical fashion (full article on this coming soon, make sure you’re subscribed to get it!).
Here are a few of those outfits (and I’m really truly embarrassed about my dirty mirror this time):
My summer uniform still in the rotation. Thrifted shirt (similar), Target bike shorts, Birks (a note: typically I share direct links to all these items for paid subscribers at the end of the post, but I’m adding them in today when available. Hopefully you’ll still become a subscriber! Also, I have committed to only sharing links for items I recommend for items that go beyond straight sizes, but here I may link to a couple of pieces that are not size inclusive because they’re the exact item I own).
Starting to pull out a few long(er) sleeved blouses. Able shirt, Jag jeans (similar, similar, similar in plus), Birks.
For my 14th anniversary dinner, I decided to wear the exact same outfit I wore to my birthday dinner a couple of months ago. Rachel Comey blouse, vintage thrifted jeans, thrifted Stuart Weitzman shoes.
Basically the same outfit as above, with barely noticable changes in the jeans and Birks. Able shirt, thrifted jeans, secondhand Birks.
It’s been mostly too hot to wear these barrel jeans since I got them in the spring, so they’re adding a bit of variety to my options. Thrifted Target tee, Everlane pants (similar in other colors in plus), Birks.
There are approximately 3.7 days per year that it’s cool enough to wear a sweater vest but not too cold to need sleeves. Old Target sweater (similar, similar in plus), thrifted jeans, old Target clogs (similar).
I wore this Roucha dress over and over this past month. It’s perfect for weather so hot you don’t want your clothes to touch you.
I really wasn’t happy with how this one turned out, but didn’t have the time to do anything about it. Thrifted blue striped shirt, thrifted H&M pants (similar in straight and plus sizes), Birks.
Which one’s your favorite?

I have finally taken advantage of Substack’s chat feature. It turns out it’s a great place for sharing little bits and bobs that I would normally share in Instagram stories. Just in the last three days, we’ve already discussed thrift finds, things we didn’t buy, how to dress for an art opening, tips for thrifting jeans, and where to find non-crunchy ethically made plus size clothing. The great thing is that paid subscribers can start their own threads to ask questions, share an OOTD (outfit of the day), or vent frustrations in a safe (as much as that is possible) space. Come join us!
I love the Roucha dress. It flows nicely on you and is the perfect length.
I know what you mean about the sweater vest. I have three sweater vests and two knit ponchos that I get to wear end of September and early October and then it's time to pack them away. For me not the smartest buys, but oh so cute.
